We had the pleasure of staying at the house with 14 guests, and every single person commented on how comfortable the house was. Our travels were during November, we tended to use the pool and ‘game room’ a ton. There was so much room for everyone to take a break from each other or to all gather together. Although the pictures were extremely accurate, they do not show how warm the house truly is. The bathrooms, kitchen, dinning room and living room were all very ‘homey’. A terrific find for a large group, and I highly would recommend it. We also truly appreciate all of the recommendations. We brought in a local chef, Matt Wickstrom, who prepared breakfast each morning along with two chef nights, a true pleasure. We also left two nights to explore town with it being the beginning of winter, it was quiet but the two restaurants we went to made it extra special, truly a fun village with wonderful people. Thank you for making the birthday trip extra special.
We had a fabulous stay at Holl House recently. Brilliant facilities, in a wonderful setting, truly magical! Lots of space and the property was well stocked with all the essentials. Gulli is an attentive host and was great to deal with. Highlights for me were pulling our own pints of local beer in the games room and soaking in the spa pool, surrounded by snow and the northern lights. We would love to go back and would throughly recommend to anyone. There were 32 of us (adults and kids).
The most amazing place in Iceland for a private retreat. Amazing facilities!
Perfect wedding venue. We stayed at Holl adventure house for 3 nights and had the best time with our 23 guests. It was the perfect venue that had everything- beautiful scenery for our outdoor ceremony, a great kitchen and dining area for dinner and the cool bar/reception space with heated floors, a pool table, ping pong table, darts, a keg and more! On our last night we were lucky enough to enjoy the northern lights sitting in the hot tub! Truly an unforgettable and amazing place. We hope to return one day and loved every second of staying here.
Even with a full house there are areas to unwind for peace and quiet. We loved the big kitchen and cooking together. Spent endless hours in the hot tub and made good use of the game room and bar. Very thoughtful amenities and easy to feel right at home. Well decorated. Clean. Comfortable! We just loved it.
Very great place to stay in an impressive location with all the amenities needed. With heated pool and sauna, two unique selling points, for which the stay is already worthwhile.
A perfect location. The property is ideally suited for a large group (we had 14 writers for a retreat). Lots of walking trails, charming Harbor town, kitchen and dining set up to accommodate groups. We had sone bad weather but were cozy and warm.
Every wedding it unique, but a wedding at Hóll is simply magical. Nothing compares to sharing a home with your family and friends on your wedding weekend. I want to share this experience with you without going into too much personal detail. If you are looking for a venue for an intimate wedding, then Hóll is absolutely perfect for the occasion.
The weekend was amazing through and through, but what made it extra special were moments such as these: walking into the kitchen in the morning with the aroma of breakfast being cooked by your friend from your undergrad years and your mother-in-law to be (one from Kópasker, Iceland, the other from New Orleans, LA), your fiancé out on the porch chatting with the husband of your best childhood friend over the morning cup of coffee, two of your friends from opposite sides of the world (one from Kópavogur, the other from Anchorage AK) go on a daily hike and become great friends, your sister makes Icelandic pancakes for everyone while each guest helps with decorating and preparing the place for your big day, a barbecue feast every night, the kids playing outside, relaxation in the pool at the end of each day enjoying the gorgeous view, to name a few. None of these moments would have taken place if we wouldn’t had chosen Hóll for all of us to stay together over the weekend.
In our case this was invaluable since we grew up in two different countries and therefore, opportunities for our families and friends to spend quality time together and get to know each other are limited. The Icelanders kept introducing Icelandic foods and traditions to our guests from North America, the latter got a unique chance to get to know my origins. Every single guest walked away from our weekend at Hóll with memories they’ll never forget. Friendships and bonds were formed which never would have occurred otherwise.
Working with Gulli and his team was a delight. Their eagerness to work with us to make the day unforgettable was priceless and it was great to have felt supported by them in that way leading up to the big day. The location at the bottom of the fjord is amazing; far away enough from town to have privacy, yet close enough to have anything close by that you might need. We got the wedding cakes from the bakery in town, Aðalbakarí, all the flowers were picked just outside of Hóll, and we barely traveled two minutes away for the photoshoots in the breathtaking landscape. The quality at Hóll is evident in every nook and cranny. They hold themselves to high standards and they have anything you might need for a comfortable stay while entertaining. To be able to have the ceremony, dinner, reception and lodging in the same place was beyond convenient, nobody had to travel anywhere the entire day. The ceremony was in the pool courtyard, the dinner in the dining hall and the cocktail hour and reception in the barn, although we utilized the outdoor spaces just as much until the end of the night. The festivities ended with relaxation in the pool looking at the sunset and sunrise. The ocean completely still, the mountains in a golden glow and the birds singing. I cannot imagine a more beautiful place to celebrate love than Hóll in Siglufjörður.
I visited Iceland this year to celebrate a milestone birthday with 20 of my closest friends and family and I was worried that I would have a difficult time finding a big enough space to accommodate the large group in a place where everyone would be able to experience the Iceland that I know and love. Fortunately, I discovered Hóll Adventure House, nestled in Siglufjörður, just an hour north of the northern capital, Akureyri – not far off the ring road. I travel to Iceland annually and have stayed in dozens of different places throughout the land of Fire & Ice, and Hóll Adventure House has by far been one of my greatest experiences in Iceland.
First and foremost, the house is newly renovated, so from the outside this house may seem like modest Icelandic abode secluded in the country – a 5-10min car ride to the nearest town center – but the interior is all modern and BIG. There were plenty of rooms and beds to accommodate more than the 20+ people in our group. The kitchen is massive and fully stocked with all the equipment and appliances you would need to cater to a large group. The spacious living room has enough comfortable seating for everyone, which can also double as additional sleeping accommodations if you intend on having an even larger group, and comes equipped with a big TV for a late night chill. The beds were extremely comfortable and there were plenty of extra linens to go around. And the bathrooms – which I cannot stress enough – are SUPURB. All showers and toilets are new, there was enough bathrooms for everyone to comfortably use and get ready in the mornings without stepping on each other’s toes and causing delays and the on-site sauna alone is enough to make anyone want to never leave this place. Out of all the rooms in the house, this was the area that was most utilized outside of the kitchen and adds to an authentic Icelandic home experience. Additionally, the WiFi signal was very strong and reliable, but considering where we were, we were all genuinely disconnected from the virtual world and getting lost in the surrounding landscapes.
There is so much to do in and on the way to Siglufjörður. At one point the host recommended we can take a free tour of the local brewery, Segull 67 Brewery, which is a staple beer in Iceland. It was a lot fun and the brewery was excited to have such a large group of friends to show around. The small harbor town is also equiped with enough grocery markets for multiple food trips as well as some local eateries if you want to experience some local cuisine.
But the five star rating factor for this place is how secluded it is from the world. Though it is near a quaint city center, it is far enough that we did not feel we were being a nuisance when playing loud music in the evening and it is secluded enough that there was no light pollution during clear evenings – the Northern Lights made an appearance multiple times for us during our stay and it was truly the icing on top the birthday cake of this very special weekend.
Communication with the host, Gulli, was also smooth and easy. He even dropped by at one point to make sure everything was going smoothly. The house is relatively newly renovated, so they are working on all sorts of additions – they showed us the current construction of the outdoor hot tub, so if you’re staying here by next Summer, you will have a luxe deck with a massive hot tub to relax and gaze at either the midnight sun or northern lights from. The exterior of the house also comes equipped with electrical access for camping during the Summer if you want to experience the outdoors a little bit more intimately. We’ll have to come back just to test it all out!
Overall, Hóll Adventure House is the perfect home for a large group of friends and family who want to visit and truly experience a part of Iceland off the beaten path.
This place was really nice and the views of Siglufjörður, wow! I recommend this place, 10/10👏🏼
